Greater Cleveland LGBTQ+ Community Needs Assessment (CNA)<\/strong> \u2013<\/strong> Geauga SOGI Support Networkis partnering with Andrew Snyder BSN, MPH of Kent State, College of Public Health, <\/strong>to assist in the coordination of Geauga County\u2019s participation in the Greater Cleveland LGBTQ+ Community Needs Assessment (CNA). Lorain and Lake County are also included. This holistic Community Needs Assessment is an extensive two-year project.  Community Needs Assessments capture valuable insight into the status, accomplishments, and deficiencies regarding the LGBTQ+ population. This information will be accessible to communities, and organizations to validate decision-making and prioritize service plans, interventions, and resources. Surveys completed by Geauga County residents are able to be separated for information specific to our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please go to https:\/\/www.lgbtqOhio.org<\/a> to learn more and take the public survey for LGBTQ people ages 12 and up. Allies are invited to take the survey also.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This free, family-friendly event is packed with pride-themed vendors, food trucks, community resources, live music, games, children’s entertainers, and fun activities. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy DreamStates<\/strong> \u2013 Akron’s All Trans Band, DJ Kimmy Kat<\/strong> \u2013 a Jamaican Pop Princess, and 45 Ballerinas<\/strong> \u2013 Cleveland\u2019s Own Hedwig and the Angry Inch Tribute Band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parking available in the main and auxiliary lots connected to the grounds. Also on Burton Square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Physical and verbal harassment will not be tolerated. Shirts and shoes are required. Substances (including but not limited to smoking, vaping, marijuana, and alcohol) are not allowed on the premises. You have heard the word transgender<\/em> a lot lately. Geauga SOGI Support Network<\/strong> is hosting a panel discussion to learn about what it means and hear about challenges transgender people face. Panelists will include a pediatric psychologist, a transgender individual, a gender nonconforming minister, and the parent of a transgender young adult. This event is FREE and open to residents of Geauga County and surrounding areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

GSSN hosted a free screening of Mama Bears, an intimate, thought-provoking exploration of the journeys of families who accept their LGBTQ children, yet struggle with conflicts with longstanding Christian beliefs. A virtual screening was also offered. A panel-led discussion followed the in-person showing. This movie was featured at the Chagrin Documentary Filmfest in October 2022 and is appropriate for middle school and older. It provides a great opportunity for family discussion.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Geauga SOGI Support Network<\/em> hosted a ceremony and vigil in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), which was started in 1999 by an advocate to honor the memory of a transgender woman who was murdered in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since this death, and began an important annual tradition.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
